BARANGAY'S OF MABUHAY
In the latter part of 1944, at the height of Japanese withdrawal from Philippine shores, Japanese soldiers under the command of General Yamashita "the Tiger of Malaya" fleeing for their lives, hopped from one place to another. Accidentally some of these Japanese strugglers came to the Island of Olutanga and settled temporarily for cover in the area now called "Mabuhay". The inhabitants having singled these Japanese soldiers, accounted these Japanese soldiers to be friend them, they were fear of Japanese reprisals. To their surprise, they were informed by the Japanese strugglers, that they are there to seek refuge from the American and Filipino liberators who are now in the Philippines. The people realizing that liberty from the Japanese invaders simultaneously shouted "Mabuhay, Mabuhay, Mabuhay". Thence to this day, the area is now known as Mabuhay Republic Act No. 4876 created Mabuhay into a municipality in May 18, 1967.
